Happy New Year! We hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and are ready for another busy term in Kingfisher class.
Our topic for this term is Extreme Earth. We will be looking at different natural disasters & learning how and why they occur. We will examine how people respond to natural disasters and where they happen. Climate change has been in the news in recent years so we will look at how humans can affect climate change.
During our reading lessons, we will be focussing on the book Wonder by R.J Palacio. This book is about a boy who has a facial disfigurement and how he copes with starting a new school and the struggles he has. We will have lots of discussions about this book and do work linked to it. It is a great book which I am sure the children will enjoy reading.
PE days are subject to change so please ensure that children have both indoor and outdoor PE kits in school every day. We are fortunate enough to have a cricket coach coming in to teach some sessions to the children this term. They will learn how to bowl, bat, and field and play lots of different games to improve their cricket skills. These sessions will be on Thursday 17th January, Thursday 14th Februay and Thursday 14th March.
Other dates for your diaries:
Thursday 7th March – World Book Day
Friday 15th March – Comic Relief
Friday 29th March- Year 5 Assembly 2.45pm (Year 6 have a busy programme of events during the Summer term so are not involved in this assembly)
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come and talk to us.
