Welcome to Kingfisher Class. We hope you are all keeping well and are ready for a new year at school. We are really looking forward to getting to know and work with all the children in Kingfisher Class throughout the year. We have a busy year ahead of us with lots of new concepts to learn about and lots of exciting activities planned.
We start the year by learning all about Ancient Egypt. This is an interesting topic and we will be learning about the lives of the Egyptians. We will look specifically at the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and his life. We will look at the River Nile and how communities lived near the river to help grow crops. We will learn about the different Gods the Ancient Egyptians worshipped and about the social structure in society. It should be a great first topic to study.
Our first English unit focuses around the picture book ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers. We will be looking at this book and writing non-chronological reports and stories based on it.
For maths we start by looking at place value and then move onto the four operations and solving problems using formal methods. We will do weekly times table and arithmetic tasks and continue to use the website Times Table Rock Stars.
Our PE days will usually be Wednesday and Friday; all PE will be outside so please make sure children have the correct clothes for the colder weather. As mentioned on previous letters, children will come home in their PE kits to save changing at the end of the day. Children will not be allowed to borrow kit from others so please ensure kits are in school.
Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and due back in on a Tuesday.
We will be coming to the gate in the mornings and afternoons so if you have any questions please ask.
