Welcome to our Autumn term, we hope you had a fantastic holiday! We are very excited to be working with you all this year. For some of you it will be your second year in Class 1 and for others it will be your first time starting at Wilbarston. We are looking forward to starting our adventure together!
This term our topic will be ‘Tails, Scales and Whiskers’ . We will be exploring animals from all over the world , from big cats to tiny mice! The topic will start with looking at pets. Exploring the animals we have at home and how to care for animals. We will be visited by a member of the Blue Cross to talk to us virtually about pet care. We will learn about animals on the farm and in the jungles! Later on in the term we will exploring big cats around the world and spend time exploring different stories and fables that enable us to think about animals and where they live.
Please can your child please bring in a photograph of their pet (if you have one ) or an animal they like as this will aid with our discussions. If you would like to you can also bring a family photo for our ‘Family Tree’ display.
Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and collected in on a Tuesday, this will be in the a4 red book.
It is vital that you read at home with your child at least 3 times a week to make sure they keep up with their reading progress. Each time your child reads at home they will be gain a sticker.
Letters and numbers
It would be of great benefit to your child if you practice writing and reading numbers 1-20 at home and beyond if possible and recognising letter names and sounds at home.
Robin words/ spellings
Year 1 children will receive weekly spellings which they will need to practise to be tested on a Tuesday. These will be in the small pink books. Reception children will have weekly Robin Words inside their red reading records each week. It is important to practise these so that your child can say them quickly by sight without sounding them out. This will aid fluency when starting to read. They will be tested on Tuesdays .
Our main PE sessions will be on a Tuesday – all afternoon - and on this day your child must come to school wearing their PE kit. This is to ensure unnecessary contact with children when helping them change. PE kit should be black shorts, a white T-shirt, plimsolls and jogging bottoms for the winter.
Robins children also have many extra physical and outdoor activities during the week.
Your child is entitled to a free school mean until Year 2. To order your FSM please log into School Money to select your daily option. The current menu is limited to pack lunches until the October half term.
If there is no order placed it will be assumed that a pack lunch is being brought in from home.
