Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to our Autumn Term. We hope that you have had a wonderful holiday!
For those of you who our new to our class a big warm welcome! On Monday- Thursday Mrs Curran and Mrs Dilks will be working with you. On a Friday you will work with Miss Robertson and Mrs Dilks. Mrs Green looks forward to working with you on a Thursday afternoon too.
As you will be aware the school is taking extra precautions in light of the Governments social distancing advice. Please bring your Year 2 children to the bottom gate (near Robin Class) at 8.45am. Year 3 are to be brought to the gate at 8.40am. Staff will collect the children and take them to their classroom or to the playground. At home time staff will bring the children down to the gate for Year 2 collection at 3.20 and for Year 3 to be collected at 3.30pm.
Unfortunately, the children are unable to bring their own pencil cases and equipment into school. Each child will be provided with their own pencil case containing all that they will need.
This term we will be learning about two famous nurses Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell. As part of this topic we will learn about their discoveries in the health care sector and how their work still impacts upon our wonderful NHS today!
In our English lessons we will begin by exploring the Oliver Jeffers text ‘Here we are’. This text explores our wonderful world and how we can take care of it and ourselves.
Our PE lessons will now take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. We will only take part in outdoor PE sessions, this term we will be exploring football skills.
In our RE sessions we will be learning about stories from the Bible and the lessons that these teach us. We will be linking these with our school values.
Homework will be sent later in the term via Teams. More information will follow regarding this soon!
Please continue to read with your child at home. Each time your child reads at home they will be awarded a reading raffle ticket. Each week a winner is drawn and 5 housepoints are awarded.
The children will be given the opportunity to change their reading book on a Monday and will have opportunities throughout the week to read and complete quizzes based upon what they have read. In the coming weeks your child will be assessed to see what their ZPD (Zone of Proximinal Development) is so that we can give them the most appropriate books to choose from.
As the year progresses I will be awarding pen licences to the children as a reward and to encourage continued neat handwriting. The licence will only be revoked if the child does not do their best handwriting 3 times. If this is the case the child can then earn it back by showing beautiful handwriting again.
If you have any questions about your child’s progress or well-being please feel free to ask.
Finally, please be reassured that measures are in place to keep your children safe and to ensure that they still receive an enjoyable education. We have really missed them all and look forward to working with them again this year!
Mrs Curran, Miss Robertson and Mrs Dilks.
