Welcome to Snowy Owls
Welcome back to our Autumn Term. We hope that you have had a wonderful holiday!
This term our topic is all about The Romans! The children will learn about how the Romans lived and explore a range of Roman artefacts.
In our English lessons we will begin by exploring some non-fiction Roman texts and writing our own reports. In maths we will focus on our number and place value skills. Please continue to practise your children’s times tables at home. If you would like any tasks to complete at home with your children please just ask.
Our PE lessons will now take place on Mondays and Tuesday with one of these being delivered by the very sporty Miss Sheen! Miss Franklin will also be teaching music to the class which will be extremely beneficial to the children. This is an area that Miss Franklin is very passionate and talented within. I will be teaching computing to Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
In our RE sessions we will be learning about family within Judaism and exploring the Shabbat ceremony.
Homework will continue to be sent home on a Wednesday and collected in on a Tuesday. Homework will include: spellings (set within phonics groups) and a piece of maths and English homework.
Please continue to read with your child at home. Each time your child reads at home they will be awarded a reading raffle ticket. Each week a winner is drawn and a small prize is awarded. Each term a larger prize is awarded. The children will be asked to change their books on a Monday and Friday but are welcome to do so in between if needed. Mrs Dilks and I will be reading with all of the children in school too.
The children are doing very well with our new cursive handwriting style and I think you’ll agree that their writing is looking beautiful. We will continue to practise this daily. As the year progresses I will be awarding pen licences to the children as a reward and to encourage continued neat handwriting. The licence will only be revoked if the child does not do their best handwriting 3 times. If this is the case the child can then earn it back by showing beautiful handwriting again.
Finally a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to our beautiful outside reading area. It looks fantastic and all of the staff look forward to making good use of it. On Wednesday morning before school begins I will be welcoming all KS2 parents and children to come and share a book in it and on Fridays for KS1.
Mrs Curran and Mrs Dilks.
