The School Day

Jesus said, I have come that you should have life, life in all its fullness. John, 10:10

Our school day begins at 8:40 when the gates automatically open for children to enter the playground, which is supervised.  The school day ends at 15:30.

In order to support the village community, we ask that families, who must use cars, to park at the Village Hall and make the short walk down to the school.  This avoids congestion on School Lane and ensures a safe arrival at school for those parents of reception children with babies and young children, who require good visibility.

If you require assistance from the office staff, please arrive at our lower School Lane entrance by the Victorian block and come up to the office area and buzz for entry.

Staff are generally available for brief conversations on the playground at 8:45 e.g about changes to collection or any appointments. If you need a longer chat, please make an appointment to talk privately with staff in school. Staff are generally available from 8:15 or after 15:40.  Please note that staff regularly (usually monthly) have to leave our school for training with the other MAT schools and are not available on these days.

Children should be at school by 8:45 as the children are taken into class for a 8:55 registration. Learning begins at 9:00. For Reception and KS1 classes, the first session is usually phonics, the basis of early reading therefore it is vital that the children don't miss the start of the session.  (Please note, if your child arrives after 9:05 the Government guidance states that this is an unauthorised absence which is what our automated attendance system records. Please ensure your child is punctual.)

All children in Y2-6 should arrive at the playground entrance and be outside the classrooms and Kingfisher class meet on the playground for 8:45 with registration taking place at 8:55.  Children have a morning break at 10:30-10:45, with KS1 pupils having an additional afternoon break. Key Stage 1 pupils have lunch from 12:00-13:00 and Key Stage 2 pupils from 12:30-13:30.

At 15:30 children should be collected by parents from their classrooms. Older siblings who are aged 14 or older (ROSPA and safeguarding guidance) are able to collect younger siblings. If your child is going home with someone different, please let the office know so that staff can be aware of this before the end of the day. It is best to ring or email before midday in case office staff are out of the office in the afternoon. We may ask relatives to use a code-word if they are new to us, this will be given to them by the office.
